Consider:
In January 2008 a Royal Navy officer had a laptop stolen that contained the personal data of 600,000 people.
The data included bank account and passport details; national insurance and NHS numbers; and home addresses. The hard disk was not encrypted.
In May 2009 a laptop computer with details of 109,000 people was stolen from offices in Marlow in Buckinghamshire. The the data was not encrypted and included names, addresses, dates of birth, employer data, national insurance numbers, salaries and bank details.
